The figures were shared in a new update from the animal charity highlighting the work of their Pet Aid service, which dished out nearly 67,000 meals last year to assist pet owners struggling with the rising cost of living in keeping their beloved animal companions.

Lanarkshire residents are now able to donate dog and cat food to the project at the charity’s South Lanarkshire rehoming centre and at five other donation points across Lanarkshire, as well as through a number of local foodbanks.

SSPCA officials responded to 3087 reports of animals in need in North Lanarkshire and rehomed 263 animals, while in South Lanarkshire there were 2822 reports of animals in need and 348 animals rehomings, with the charity saying the numbers are “those assisted through advice, Pet Aid or through other partners”.
