Campaigners insisted the fight to save the out-of-hours GP service at Wishaw General Hospital must begin.

Health bosses had been accused of bulldozing through plans to axe the out-of-hours doctors’ service based at the hospital’s A&E unit.

After NHS Lanarkshire’s board approved the move, patients in Wishaw, Newmains, Shotts, Cleland and Motherwell faced having to attend a health clinic in either Hamilton or Airdrie to see a doctor in either the evenings or weekends.
