Illegal drug trials: AMC seeks action against two firms

Probe found that volunteers were lured with cash, forced into secret experiments resembling 'human trafficking'

Acting on a city police report, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has written to the Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA), urging immediate action against two pharmaceutical companies for gross ethical and legal violations during clinical trials. An FIR could be lodged soon.

The police had launched a discreet inquiry into the two companies, and their findings, submitted to the AMC, expose a deeply disturbing pattern of exploitation and human rights abuse.
