A MUCH-LOVED mum and devoted grandma died after taking painkillers to treat a broken back.
-
Carol Jean Bailey from Altham near Accrington died at the Royal Blackburn Hospital on April 2 this year.
The 65-year-old had been taking paracetamol to treat a fractured vertebrae.
An inquest held on Monday, at Accrington Town Hall heard that Carol's preexisting medical conditions had made her more susceptible to paracetamol poisoning.
Assistant Coroner Laura Fox returned a narrative conclusion and said: “Carol Jean Bailey died on the 2nd April 2025 at the Royal Blackburn Hospital.
“Mrs Bailey died from acute liver failure having ingested a staggered excess of paracetamol following a previous fall in which she sustained a stable thoracic vertebral compression fracture.
“Mrs Bailey's underlying chronic fatty liver increased her susceptibility to paracetamol poisoning.”
