Councillors to have allowances frozen

Council is set to freeze councillors allowances for 2026/27.The council’s Leader's Policy Development Board has recommended its members forgo an increase for the year when it met on Thursday October 23.

‘The allowances were set to go up by inflation following a recommendation of its independent remuneration panel last year.

‘The board also recommended scrapping special responsibility allowances (SRAs) for political group secretaries and chief whips.

‘The moves are revealed in the minutes of the board meeting chaired by Hyndburn Council leader Cllr Munsif Dad published in the papers for Wednesday last week's Cabinet meeting.
