CAMILLA FOSTER gets expert tips on helping children ditch their screens
-
ENGAGING in exercise from a young age has been shown to reduce the likelihood of mental health problems developing later in life.
However, the powerful pull of online activities and smartphones means many parents find it challenging to get their children to step away from screens.
We spoke with PE teacher Charlotte Williams, acting joint director of sport at Downe House School in Berkshire, who shared her top tips for encouraging kids to get involved in sport.
1. Be a role model for your child
"Young people are very influenced by adults and people they think are important in their lives," says Charlotte. "Providing access to games in the garden or on holiday can be really beneficial. Children also pick up on things like when parents are seen going to the tennis club or a park run and this might inspire them."
2. Help find an activity they enjoy
