Fit-again Richards is setting his sights high

BATH’s Ewan Richards is hoping that he can put last season’s injury troubles behind him and keep pushing forward at The Rec, whether it is at lock or in the hotly-contested back row.

A hamstring and ankle ligament injury restricted the 21-year-old to just a handful of appearances in 2022/23. But the former England age-grade international is very much at the front and centre of the coaches’ thoughts as captain of the Premiership Cup team.

“Mid-way through the season last year I tore my hammy in training so I was out for three to four months with that. I came back and had a few loan games at Taunton, just getting some minutes into my legs and, unfortunately I did one of the ligaments in my ankle and that out me out for another few weeks and that was towards the end of the season,” said Richards, who admits to a preference for playing six.

“So, yeah, it was not a great season but injuries happen in sport and it is how you bounce back. Hopefully this season, I can get some minutes under my belt.
