Bercis buzzing for a shot at big boys

JOE Bercis is set to become the all-time appearance holder for Ampthill this season and aims to put a torrid time with injuries behind him as he targets a top five Championship finish.

Openside Bercis, 29, was named in the Championship Dream Team in the 2019/20 campaign but has endured back-to-back stop-start seasons due to a shoulder operation.

After making just two appearances last season he is eager for action, with the added carrot of a shot against top-flight teams in the Premiership Cup.

“I’m raring to go,” he said. “I did enjoy the time off at the start because I’ve got a young family but watching the last game, Bedford at home from the sidelines was a killer as I just wanted to get stuck in. I’m very ready to get back on the field.”

Paul Turner’s side finished eighth last season but Bercis feels they can push for higher places in what looks set to be a competitive Championship.
