Step 4 Vale have Dons legend in ranks

- Matthew Luddington

SCALES' WORTH WEIGHT IN GOLD

HE was part of the Crazy Gang's famous FA Cup win over Liverpool in 1998 but just a long throw from his former Wimbledon home, John Scales is helping Step 4 Raynes Park Vale realise their own dreams.

The 57-year-old former Liverpool, Tottenham and England star is a club consultant at the Step 4 outfit.

Last year they won promotion from the Combined Counties League and Josh Gallagher's Isthmian South Central side are in the thick of a title race once again.

And Scales relishes the opportunity to help make a significant impact in south west London.

"I've been involved with Raynes Park Vale for a few years now," Scales told The NLP. "I joined when I managed to persuade a gentleman, who now owns the club, to get involved.

"We shared a vision for the club's future and the surrounding community. Our aim is to position Raynes Park Vale as a central force for positive change in Raynes Park and working on this been incredibly enjoyable.

"We aim to create something exceptional within the community, and create a legacy that will last for generations." Vale earned promotion from Combined Counties Premier Division South last year, securing an impressive 99 points under head coach Gallagher, twin brother of ex-England C captain Jake and elder sibling of England and Chelsea star Conor.
