LINNETS IN FINAL-DAY HEARTACHE

KING’S LYNN TOWN were denied automatic promotion on the final day – and the playoffs are next on the horizon – despite beating Curzon Ashton.

The Linnets held up their end of the bargain by beating the Nash in front of a bumper final-day attendance of 2,380, but AFC Fylde also won by the same score at Bradford Park Avenue to clinch the title by just two points.

Lynn ended the season with another three points in the bag – thanks to goals from Gold Omotayo and Josh Barrett – but they will now host the winners of Alfreton Town and Kidderminster Harriers on Sunday week.

Interim boss Mark Hughes, in charge since Tommy Widdrington’s recent shock exit to Aldershot, said: “When we heard that AFC Fylde were 2-0 up we just concentrated to make sure that we won the game 2-0. As coaching staff, we had to focus on ourselves and I think that was our toughest game since I’ve been in charge.
