MARK HARPER believes Chertsey Town deserve their place among the higher echelons of Non-League after taking them back to Step 3 following a sensational first season in charge.

The former Curfews player took over at Alwyns Lane last May with a brief to get the club out of the Isthmian South Central division and has done so in style, losing just once en route to winning the title with two matches left.

Since losing at Raynes Park Vale way back in September, Harper's side have sprinted well clear of second-placed Marlow, who they beat last month, remaining unbeaten at home.

A 3-1 home win over Ascot United secured the championship and Harper says a return to Step 3 next season, in whichever league that may be, is long overdue.
