Patience pays dividends for big winners in Ockhams.

Damien Wilkins has won the $65,000 Jann Medlicott Acorn Prize for Fiction, for his novel Delirious (Te Herenga Waka University Press), at this year's Ockham New Zealand Book Awards. The author of 14 books and a creative writing teacher, Wilkins won the fiction award in 1994 for The Miserables, and has twice been runner-up for the prize. Fiction category convenor of judges Thom Conroy said the "intimate, funny and honest" book "immerses readers in Mary and Pete's grapples with ageing and their contemplations of lost loved ones who still thrive in vivid memories".
