IF YOU WERE a petrol head in India in the 2000s, or a child, and asked your father what that fancy looking car was, it would probably be a German saloon going about its business looking elegant and poised. Or maybe that car was an Italian in red with a prancing horse on its hood - it would be a little less elegant, a lot madder, but also a lot more desirable.
Thing is though, as a kid whenever I saw one of these cars and asked my father or mother to teach me how to pronounce the name, it didn't take long for me to get the hang of it. The Germans, specially, were just so common. Today, you wouldn't give them a second glance at a traffic light.
However, it's 2022 and I am certain that I probably still can't pronounce Maserati correctly. Forgive me, dear Italians. And that's the exclusivity you get when you're in a Maserati, birthed in Bologna in 1914 and making its debut in India nearly a century later in 2011. They are so rare that when you spot the moniker - with the logo a representation of the Greek God Neptune's trident - you stop in awe and wait for that mellifluous exhaust note.
