Folk star Ainsley Hamill's latest record Fable is thrumming with life

Mythology & Mystery

WHEN Ainsley Hamill set out to record an album inspired by the myths and folklore of Scotland, she didn't realise that she would also be documenting her own origin story.

As the Cardross-born singer tells it, third album Fable adopts a bit of a back-to-basics approach after several years of "weird and wonderful" projects, most recently working with singer and Gaelic cultural standardbearer Kenna Campbell to publish an expanded collection of the songs gathered by early 20th century folklorist Frances Tolmie.

"I realised I'd never released a collection of songs that really represent who I am live," she says. "Most musicians do it the other way around!"
