What A Time

L'epee 1839, a Swiss purveyor of highend clocks, has unveiled its Time Fast Il collection, which pays homage to Formula 1 race cars from the 1960s.

An aperture on the lateral side of each aluminium-forged chassis houses two stainless steel discs, for the hour-and-minute display, to evoke the vehicles' competition number. In the cockpit, the steering wheel doubles up as a time-setting mechanism. Under the hood are two independent movements: one for driving the time display with an eight-day power reserve, and another that fires up the engine automat. When activated via a key on the dashboard, the pistons of the V8 engine pump with vigour-as any high-performance engine ought to.

Weighing 4.7kg, each variant is richly detailed and exquisitely realised. Available in five colours-Ferrari red, British racing green, Mercedes silver, AC Cobra blue with white stripes, and white with blue stripes-each model is limited to 99 pieces.
