This year, a new kind of leadership has emerged—not from boardrooms or ministries, but from the ground up. Across NGOs, the arts, media and community organisations, Malaysians are taking ownership of the issues that shape our collective future. Their work spans child protection, environmental action, women's health, indigenous storytelling and housing rights, yet they are united by a shared instinct: when something matters, you act. These are the individuals proving that meaningful change begins with one decisive step forward.

TENGKU DATIN PADUKA SETIA ZATASHAH BINTI SULTAN SHARAFUDDIN IDRIS SHAH

In a landscape where community work is often spoken about more than it is lived, Tengku Datin Paduka Setia Zatashah binti Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah stands out for one simple reason: she shows up. Featured recently on the cover of sister publication PIN Prestige, the Selangor princess continues to defy expectations of royal life. For nearly a decade, she has been at the forefront of environmental and humanitarian initiatives, mobilising Malaysians across backgrounds to take action.

Her #SayNo2Plastic campaign, beach and river cleanups, and underwater debris removals are now familiar sights on social media—not because they are staged, but because she genuinely leads from the front. Whether carrying sacks of trash, sorting recyclables, or educating young volunteers, she believes change begins with doing, not merely advocating.

As Chairperson of Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia, she has helped build critical food-rescue networks that redirect surplus produce to vulnerable communities nationwide. During monsoon seasons and floods, her team works closely with agencies to deliver hygiene-safe food to families in crisis.

She often joins the distributions herself, loading vans, lifting boxes, and speaking directly with recipients—a reminder that dignity is best upheld through presence, not distance.
