Tom has been based in Singapore since 2011, where he is Head of Mergers & Acquisitions, Southeast Asia at Stephenson Harwood LLP. The 45-year-old is an avid sports fan, both watching and playing. His latest sporty venture, however, is something very different from what you might see on TV or the playing field.
Tom’s initial plan to support Dementia Singapore was to do 75 loops of MacRitchie Reservoir in 2023, which equated to 1,000 km (or thereabouts); his goal was to raise between $5,000 and $10,000. This grew, and it continued to grow, and it has become something much bigger than he’d ever anticipated. With international work travel in the equation, Tom has even extended his “loops” to parks in London, New York and Paris.
We asked him a few questions about the MacRitchie Challenge.
Why this charity and this particular activity?
Dementia is an illness that is close to my heart and my family’s heart. And, as I got to know the team at the Dementia Singapore charity here, it became clear what extraordinary and tireless work they do to support the growing number of dementia sufferers and their care-givers.
