Feeling like a mid-year pick-me-up? Start by treating your teeth! Here are a few ways to improve not only your smile but your dental health too.
Go for a smile makeover
No two sets of teeth are the same – which is why smile makeovers shouldn't be either. Digital Smile Design (DSD) is an advanced and personalised approach to designing a smile makeover, explains Dr Andrew Doig of Skye Dental Clinic, the first and only dedicated DSD clinic in Singapore.
DSD involves incorporating digital records of your teeth, gums, bone and face to create a smile that's proportionate to your face. Because every face is different, each smile design is completely customised. Dr Doig, a certified Digital Smile Design (DSD) Master, also collaborates with international dental technicians and software engineers to craft the perfect smile for each patient.
The benefits of the approach
DSD can address almost all dental concerns, whether aesthetic or functional. These include aligning teeth, providing dental implants, correcting gummy smiles, improving tooth colour and shape and comprehensive dental rehabilitation. For example, misaligned or crowded teeth can be treated with orthodontics like Invisalign (with Dr May Ling Eide, Skye Dental’s orthodontics dentist), followed by composite bonding by Dr Andrew who uses white fillings to enhance tooth shape. He also 3D prints plastic guides to ensure accurate placement for natural-looking results.
Unlike traditional smile makeover methods that are often more invasive and result in more destruction of the tooth tissue, DSD allows Dr Andrew and Dr May to take a conservative, minimally invasive approach – focusing on preserving your healthy teeth while achieving the desired results.
