According to Mordor Analysis, a market research firm, India’s pharmaceutical packaging market is set to grow from $5.14 billion in 2025 to $7.81 billion by 2030, with a CAGR of 8.72%. The sector is entering an exciting phase, led by the expansion of the domestic pharmaceutical industry - already the world’s largest provider of generics - and rising healthcare spending.

Government initiatives like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and increased healthcare budgets have further brightened the industry's prospects. Technological advancements such as smart packaging for improved traceability and security are also generating fresh demand, especially from companies seeking efficient and sustainable solutions. The shift toward advanced, eco-friendly packaging has added momentum to the market.

RISING PREVALENCE OF CHRONIC DISEASES IN INDIA

India is witnessing a sharp rise in non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including diabetes, hypertension, and cancer. A 2021 study by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation found that 11.4% of the population - roughly 101 million individuals - live with diabetes, while 15.3% (136 million) are prediabetic. Additionally, 35.5% (315 million) suffer from hypertension, and 39.5% (351 million) have abdominal obesity.

Cancer incidence is also rising, with annual cases projected to grow from 1.46 million in 2022 to 1.57 million by 2025, and possibly reaching 2 million by 2040.

These escalating health concerns, especially chronic conditions, are driving the demand for pharmaceutical products - and by extension, the packaging that ensures their safety, efficacy, and ease of use.
