A stylist's eye brings a curated vision of balanced neutrality, soft curves and a pervading sense of peace to this inner-city terrace retreat
Balanced beauty The living room mixes monochrome, sculptural pieces with different textures. Elle Cube marble-topped coffee table, GlobeWest. Gubi mirror. Milou swivel chair, Lyon rug and Tao floor lamp, all Coco Republic.
who lives here?
Interior stylist Leah Maidment, her partner, David, and their British bulldog, Bruno.
INTERIOR STYLIST LEAH MAIDMENT has a knack for knowing exactly where to place furniture and decorator pieces. "I think it goes with the job," she says. "When I walk into a space, I visualise where things will go straightaway." So it's no surprise that her inner-Sydney two-bedroom terrace is so cohesive. But what is somewhat unexpected is the fact that, despite Leah's professional access to unlimited interior products and endless new trends, her style remains pared-back and absolutely governed by careful curation. There is no excess or over-complication. And therefore, every interiors choice shines.
STRONG FOUNDATIONS Leah's style is deeply influenced by Danish modernism as well as the Japanese aesthetic principles of wabi-sabi, which honour notions of transience, imperfection, modesty and the use of natural materials. "I also really love the work of European designers such as Joseph Dirand, Pierre Yovanovitch and Axel Vervoordt," says Leah. "They inspire me. For me, design is all about that balance between line, shape, form and colour."
