Architect and artist Suchi Reddy, founder of Reddymade, blends emotion and innovation in her New York-based practice

In the realm of design, Suchi Reddy stands as a luminary, drawing inspiration from writer James Baldwin’s poignant words: “One discovers the light in darkness, that is what darkness is for; but everything in our lives depends on how we bear the light.” With her Indian-American heritage influencing her creative tapestry, Suchi’s design narrative is a saga of innovation and emotion. Founded in 2002, her New York-based practice, Reddymade embodies the ethos of “form follows feeling”, where priority is given to the emotional quality of human engagement with space. Over the past decade, Suchi’s artistic voyage has intersected with the scientific currents of neuroaesthetics. A fascinating confluence of neuroscience, art, and architecture, this field has bestowed her practice with newfound dimensions. “I wanted to really explore that when I first heard about it and it has developed into an outlook that can hopefully change the way we think about design,” Suchi reveals.
