When looking for the perfect saucepans, it's important to think practically about the sizes you choose. Pans measuring 16cm, 18cm and 20cm in diameter are great standards to make up a set of three. Plus, this combination is all likely to fit on the hob at the same time, often essential when cooking. The other sizes worth considering are a larger stockpot and a 14cm milk pan. This will usually have a pouring spout but no lid, making it perfect for hot liquids such as sauces or gravy.

It's also important to check which kind of pan you need. Induction pans are specifically designed to work on an induction hob. The pan's base will be made from a magnetic material, such as cast iron or stainless steel, which heats up when placed directly on the hob. Not sure if a pan is induction-friendly? Hold a magnet to the base. If it sticks, your pan is compatible with induction cooking.
