WHEN A TORONTO FAMILY enlisted local interior designer Ali Budd to renovate both the main floor and the second-floor primary suite of their five-bedroom home, they essentially offered her a blank canvas. According to Budd, the house was in dire need of a facelift—“The feeling was reminiscent of a 2000s-era mansion, and we wanted to create something with more depth to it,” she explains. The biggest challenge, she says, was at the heart of the home.
