It's no wonder that china cabinets are back in fashion-displaying your dishware lets you see what you have and frees up kitchen storage space. In her home's built-in expanse, author and interior stylist Mieke ten Have mixes up matching sets and treats each shelf as its own vignette. Ten Have likens her shelfstyling approach to a city skyline: "I want there to be height and movement in the way I arrange everything."

Cookbooks fill a recessed nook, adding to the dining room's warm, cozy feel.
