Centre asked to decentralise Ayushman Bharat scheme

THE Parliamentary Panel on Finance has recommended that the health services under the Central government's flagship scheme Ayushman Bharat must be further decentralised using technology to address gaps in reach and accessibility.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance, in its report on the 'Roadmap for Indian economic growth in light of global economic and geopolitical circumstances', presented to Lok Sabha in August, has been looking at the key catalysts for India's economic growth, including physical and digital infrastructure, exports and trade, baking sector and credit availability, employment and skill development, R&D, among others.

It identified employment generation, skilling, education and healthcare as foundational pillars of inclusive economic growth.

"Health services under Ayushman Bharat must be further decentralised via mobile health units and telemedicine hubs, particularly in tribal and hilly regions to deepen its impact and address gaps in reach and accessibility," said the Panel headed by Member of Parliament Bhartruhari Mahtab.
