From last-minute cancellations to weather upsets, here's expert advice on how to stay a step ahead of any potential wedding disaster

Save our soirée

Despite working months in advance and poring over every detail for things to run smoothly, unpleasant surprises can crop up at the last minute. An unexpected downpour at a sunset beach ceremony, for instance, can put the patience of even a saint to the test. To help ensure that unforeseen wedding emergencies don’t derail your big day, we asked experienced wedding planners for their best advice.

Last-minute cancellations by vendors

Check with your vendor what their backup plan in case of an emergency is. If they have a strategy in place, you know they’ve thought things through and that you’re in good hands. Another tip is to have reliable backups in place. Sabah Shaikh, founder of Ātisuto Events, advises, “Opt for vendors that have been recommended by someone you trust. Booking a vendor who is more affordable or accessible might be easy in the beginning of your wedding planning process, but they might not stand you in good stead in the long run. Ensure that you have a list of backup vendors, in case of illness or unexpected circumstances.”
