Guidelines of an ethical diamond industry
Diamond World
|September - October 2022
Natural diamonds have been closely associated with cultures across the world. Their versatility and resilience help them become an intrinsic part of a consumer's daily life, while being beacons of conscious luxury and slow fashion. The modern diamond industry too is moving towards sustainability and Natural Diamond Council, along with its members, is working to inform and educate consumers on the empowering and enriching legacy of diamonds.
-
The OECD, UN Convention Against Corruption and the ILO, along with the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), have laid out a set of 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be followed by all industry bodies. These SGDs talk about implementing strategies that improve health and education facilities, reduce gender inequality in the workforce, and spur economic growth in local communities all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
To achieve these sustainable goals, all members of the NDC ensure total transparency is maintained in the manufacturing and diamond recovery process. Diamond companies operate within strict guidelines, hold themselves accountable to the highest standards and release regular sustainability reports that speak in great detail about their initiatives.
