CONNOR FINCH on why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover in his literary whodunnit

Getting a job at Book’s antiquarian bookshop was a game-changing moment for former prisoner Jack Blunt in U&Alibi’s Bookish - and rising star Connor Finch feels the same about being cast as the character in the 1940s-set mystery drama.

‘This was always going to be a role that I fought for,’ shares the Everything I Know about Love actor as he joins TV Times for a chat during a break in filming the six-part series on location in London.

‘I spent three months reading the script and thinking, “No one else is having this, I'm playing this part.” If they'd said I hadn't got it, I don’t know what I would have done!’

After the opening two-part case on Wed 16 July, this week's double bill sees Jack and his boss Gabriel Book (show creator Mark Gatiss) investigating a murder on a movie set. But as Jack settles into his new home with Book and his wife Trottie (Polly Walker), he makes a discovery that makes him wonder if his arrival into their lives was no accident.
