DI Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet) didn't exactly endear himself to his new colleagues when he was seconded to Saint Marie's police force at Christmas. Unapologetically metropolitan in his approach to life and work, he found the pace of everything on the island agonisingly slow - and the rest of his team bristled at his constant complaints about it.

As a result, there's no great sadness on either side when Mervin packs his bags and prepares to return to London as the new series of Death in Paradise begins.
