Comedian John Bishop has given us plenty of laughs over his stand-up career. But now he’s taking on the serious challenge of learning sign language as part of his ITV documentary John & Joe Bishop: Life after Deaf.

It focuses on the star’s relationship with his deaf son, Joe, now 27, who lost most of his hearing overnight when he was just 15 due to a rare autoimmune condition called Cogan’s syndrome.
