Two onetime sweethearts reconnect decades later while living on the opposite sides of the world in BBC2's poignant new drama Mix Tape.

Based on the novel of the same name by Jane Sanderson, the four-part series is set in two timelines and boasts an iconic 1980s soundtrack. It begins in 1989 with a young Alison and Daniel (Florence Hunt and Rory Walton-Smith) bonding over music as teenagers in Sheffield.

But by 2015, the pair are oceans apart. Daniel has remained in Sheffield and is working as a freelance music critic, while Alison is forging a career as an author in Sydney. Yet both are experiencing a sense of emptiness that their lives didn't turn out as they had planned.
