But for animals, ensuring the survival of their offspring requires huge dedication and resourcefulness, as BBC1's new natural-history series Parenthood shows.

Narrated by Sir David Attenborough, the five episodes explore how a variety of creatures across the globe go to incredible lengths to keep their young fed and protected from predators.
