Pore strips are an instant solution for clogged pores and blackheads, but dermatologists warn against using them too much. Kalwyna Rathod delves into the pros and cons

QUICK FIX OR SKIN RISK?

We all love pore strips - the immediate feelgood factor comes from watching the gunk being removed physically, stuck on the strip itself. Also, while serums and face cleansers take weeks to show changes, pore strips provide a quick fix. This makes them perfect for giving the skin a smooth and clean feel just before an important event. For oily and acne-prone skin types, the temporary fix in skin sebum and reduction of blackheads can feel refreshing.

Faridabad-based Dr Khushboo Jha (MBBS, MD), Chief Dermatologist Consultant - Metro Hospital and Founder - One Skin Clinic, points out that this is just a temporary solution. “Pore strips are patches with adhesion and are made to remove blackheads, dirt, and excess sebum from the nose, chin, or forehead area. You apply the strip on damp skin and let it dry before peeling it off; as the adhesive pulls away, it lifts debris from open pores, giving the illusion of clear skin. What it pulls out is actually dead skin cells, sebaceous filaments, and, sometimes, blackheads.”

THE DOWNSIDESDr Khushboo adds that, while pore strips aren't inherently dangerous, they do come with risks that could affect your skin health in the long run. She lists some below.
