BROADCAST OPERATIONS AT UEFA EURO 2024
Digital Studio
|August 2025
The UEFA EURO 2024 tournament marked a significant milestone in live sports production, with UEFA taking full charge of the entire broadcast value chain. A comprehensive and innovative media delivery system was implemented to serve the diverse needs of media rights-holding partners and audiences worldwide. The broadcast coverage was conducted across ten venues in Germany, supported by a state-of-the-art International Broadcast Centre (IBC) and an extensive remote production setup.
-
CENTRALISED PLANNING AND STRATEGY
A strategic decision was made by UEFA to manage the end-to-end broadcast and media distribution responsibilities, ensuring consistency, quality, and innovation throughout the tournament. The media rights sales and account management were overseen by CAA Eleven, UEFA's exclusive marketing agency for national team competitions.
More than 130 broadcast and radio partners were served across over 200 territories, with the cumulative audience expected to exceed 5 billion viewers. Over 3,500 hours of live and ancillary content were planned for delivery, highlighting the scale and ambition of the project.
PRODUCTION QUALITY AND TECHNICAL INFRASTRUCTURE
All matches were produced in 1080p50 High Dynamic Range (HDR), with parallel SDR and 1080i options available. The multi-feed production model was deployed, which included the main match feed, additional clips, ISO feeds, clean feeds, and tactical feeds to provide broadcasters with versatile editorial options.
Distribution was carried out through Euro-vision Services via satellite and through five Points of Presence (POPs) located in London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Washington D.C., and New York. An uncompressed HD video and audio signal transmission was achieved through a 2x200 Gbps DWDM optical fibre ring connecting all venues to the IBC.
