Anatomically, the retina is made up of 10 Layers. What we see on a naked eye examination are just the top layers of the retina. Anything deeper than that, or a very small lesion even, could be missed in a simple examination. These smaller pathologies, which can be detected on a retinal scan, could lead to larger damaging problems and reduce your vision for life. This is where retinal scanning comes in!
So, what is retinal or OCT scanning?
Retinal or OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) scanning is a type of modified CT scan. With it, we get a more detailed view of the retina, layer by layer, and we find out about any abnormalities or diseases that are present within the layers of the retina. These could be hampering your vision. Once we diagnose them clearly, we can find a solution and treat the cause.
