Last year on his June 21st birthday, Prince William was dancing in the VIP section at Taylor Swift's Eras Tour with Prince George and Princess Charlotte in an effort to step up and keep his children occupied while their mother, Princess Kate, battled cancer. Those months were “brutal,” he admitted to reporters in November, calling it probably “the hardest year in my life.”

As he approaches his 43rd birthday, he’s in a much better place. Not only is Kate cancer-free, but William is “fully in the driver’s seat” when it comes to running the Duchy of Cornwall, The Telegraph gushed on May 30. “He’s easy to follow because he’s got great conviction and personality,” the duchy’s secretary, Will Bax, told the outlet, “and he really wears his heart on his sleeve in terms of social interest and his desire to have a positive impact in the world.”

Call him the People’s Prince. His late mother, Princess Diana, would be proud, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond recently told UK’s The Mirror. “The country is very lucky to have William,” Bond said Di once predicted. “I think she was bang on.”
