She’s been labelled a liar, “self-serving” and just a founder's “girlfriend” — but Whitney Wolfe Herd is a force to be reckoned with, if her depiction in the new film Swiped is anything to go by.

Portrayed by British actress Lily James, the film details Wolfe Herd’s ascension from youthful tech go-getter to the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire. Plus, the lawsuits surrounding her time at dating app Tinder and the story behind building its female-empowered rival, Bumble.

And though the drama shows Wolfe Herd in a successful and powerful light, she told CNBC that she actually tried to have the movie canned when she got word of its development two years ago.

"Frankly, I was informed about this movie after it was already off to the races...

I even was asking my lawyer two years ago, like, ‘What do I do? I don’t want a movie about me. Shut it down!’” she insisted.
