Jenna Ortega opens up about her spooky alter ego and the joy of playing utterly authentic Wednesday Addams

“It’s hard to take Wednesday off,” Jenna Ortega recently admitted of the deadpan persona she brings to life onscreen. “I look in the mirror and I see her,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “That judgmental glare is two seconds away!”

But there is no scowl to be seen from the 22-year-old when she reflects on filming Wednesday, a fresh take on The Addams Family centred on the spooky clan's teenage daughter. In fact, shooting season 2 of the supernatural series in Ireland opened Jenna up to some joyful new experiences.

“When I went there, I didn’t even like Guinness or anything ~ I hate beer,” she confessed to Stephen Colbert. “But by the end [of filming], I was singing in a pub at two in the morning with a group of people I had never met before!”

Now, the California native is ready to lift the curtain on what’s in store for her alter ego as she heads back to school — at delightfully dark Nevermore Academy.
