Smiling serenely and wearing full royal regalia, Queen Elizabeth II poses in a rarely seen portrait released to mark the first anniversary of her death

Taken by legendary photographer Cecil Beaton, it shows Her late Majesty, at age 42, wearing her velvet Garter robes and the Vladimir Tiara, which features 15 interlaced circles of diamonds.

The King shared the image – which hasn’t been seen in public for more than 50 years – on the eve of the anniversary as he thanked the public for their support.
