Following the happy news that she is in remission from cancer; the Princess of Wales says she has much to look forward to

KATE'S NEW CHAPTER BEGINS

As she paused for a moment, as if to steel herself, in the bitter January cold under the arched iron gate of London's Royal Marsden hospital last week, it was clear to see how the Princess of Wales had come full circle.

She was there to meet cancer patients in a surprise and emotional - visit, but also to thank the staff who had cared for her during private appointments for her own treatment over a six-month period last year.

imageThis time, she was returning in public, not as a patient but as the world-leading cancer centre's new royal patron. And almost a year to the day since the abdominal surgery that led to her own diagnosis, she was able to share the news that she is now in remission.

In a personal message posted on social media after what sources described as an "incredibly poignant" visit, she wrote: "It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery.

"As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead.

imageThere is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support." Praising staff at the hospital for their "exceptional" care and for "looking after me so well", she added: "My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything. We couldn't have asked for more." Last week, it was Kate's turn to walk alongside those still going through treatment and facing some of their darkest days.
