Drama and stress when you're small really affect you

It is one of the most candid conversations he has ever shared publicly and one that goes to the heart of what the Prince of Wales wants for his family and his future.

In an extraordinary and deeply personal, emotional and, at times, humorous conversation, Prince William opens up about balancing work and family life, the impact of his parents' divorce, protecting his wife and children, missing his grandparents and his approach to his destiny as monarch.

Sharing his vision for his time as King, he reveals that "change is on my agenda", adding that by the time Prince George is in his position, he wants to "create a world in which my son is proud of what we do".

The heir to the throne shares his thoughts with Eugene Levy in the Hollywood star's Apple TV+ show The Reluctant Traveler. In the special episode, which aired last week, William takes Eugene on a private tour of Windsor Castle and a walk with the Waleses' cocker spaniel, Orla. The pair also pop to the Two Brewers pub in Windsor.

Over a pint, William says he doesn't wake up in the morning and think about becoming King, adding: "To me, being authentic and being myself, and being genuine, is what drives me.

Asked if he feels the same about his 12-year-old son, George, becoming monarch, he says: "I want to create a world in which my son is proud of what we do; a world and a job that actually does affect people's lives for the better.

"I think it's safe to say that change is on my agenda. Change for good. That's the bit that excites me, the idea of being able to bring some change. Not overly radical change, but changes that I think need to happen."

William tells Eugene of his hope that "we don't go back to some of the practices in the past that Harry and I had to grow up in", which is thought to be a reference to media intrusion in his childhood - something he makes clear he will not tolerate for his own family.
