The greater challenge—and opportunity—lies in making handloom brand-ready, commercially sustainable, globally competitive, and environmentally responsible.

Learning from Global Luxury and Local Icons
When Prada transformed Italian leather craftsmanship into a globally aspirational brand, it did more than sell a product—it sold a cultural narrative with authenticity and prestige. Similarly, India's Kolhapuri chappal, once a humble footwear craft, became iconic when protected through Geographical Indication (GI) tagging and positioned with cultural identity.
These cases show us a crucial truth: clusters of artisans and their products must be elevated into recognised, protected, and celebrated brands. Without such positioning, heritage risks being lost to imitation, undervaluation, and unsustainable livelihoods.
IFBEC's Role: Arbiter, Catalyst, and Storyteller
IFBEC is working with handloom clusters across India—from Banaras to Assam, from Odisha to Tamil Nadu—not just as a facilitator, but as an arbiter between artisans, markets, policymakers, and global buyers. Our interventions focus on:
