Mohair Empowerment Trust: Graduates rewrite the story in 2025

South Africa is a leader in mohair production and in the care of the Mohair Empowerment Trust (MET) is the development of black commercial mohair producers, farm workers, and entrepreneurs.
Counting among this year's highlights at the MET was the graduation of three farmers who successfully completed the Trust's five-year farmer development programme, and the celebration of incredible women for their knitting achievements during Women’s Month in August.
The MET, its partners, and supporters extend our heartfelt congratulations to these three graduates from the MET farmer development programme. They carry the legacy of transformation forward and we take great pride in encouraging our graduates to continue their relationship with the Trust. Their journeys have not been easy, but with MET's vision for transformation and the producers’ own determination, the impossible has become possible.
Having witnessed their growth and ongoing success, I believe that their achievement is a true reflection of the impact we strive to make in the agricultural landscape of mohair farming. Their journey is our shared achievement, and we remain committed to supporting them every step of the way. Their names now carry weight not just in their communities, but across the mohair industry.
The steadfast farmer
Adelaide's Eureka Farm is no longer just a piece of land, but a living story of resilience. Mzwakhe Ndlela started with limited means and countless obstacles in his way, yet through MET’s support and his own perseverance, he has managed to transform his farm into a thriving business. His Angora goats now produce mohair that competes on international markets, and his farm has become a source of pride and inspiration for the surrounding community. His graduation is not just his achievement - it belongs to every young producer who sees in him proof that dreams can be reached.

Wireworm management in small stock
Years of indiscriminate dosing have eliminated weaker wireworms, allowing resistant populations to dominate and spread through flocks. Wireworms typically hatch following good rains and warm nights.
