Circular economy in action

Every year, millions of tonnes of waste in Asia end up in landfills, resulting in environmental and health risks. Prashant Singh, Co-Founder & CEO, Blue Planet Environmental Solutions, is addressing this challenge by helping manufacturers turn waste into valuable resources. Under his leadership, the company offers innovative solutions like waste-to-energy, plastic-to-fuel, and e-waste recycling, promoting a circular economy that reduces environmental impact while creating new revenue streams.

Blue Planet has transformed some of Asia's largest landfill sites, including Perungudi and Kodungaiyur, into resources for fuel, construction, and eco-parks. Combining advanced technology, digital monitoring, and local innovation, the company also generates green jobs and supports community development. In this interview, Prashant Singh shares insights on sustainable waste management and the future of circular solutions in manufacturing.

How do you guide manufacturers in transitioning from traditional linear models to a more circular approach, and what are the initial challenges they typically face?

The process begins by assessing a manufacturer's waste streams and production byproducts to identify opportunities for reuse, recycling, and energy recovery. Utilising them the right way, rather than dumping them improperly, diverts waste from landfills as well as lowers input costs and reduces carbon footprint.

Sustainability is often considered as an added cost by manufacturers rather than a strategic advantage, posing a hurdle to the widespread integration of circularity in the business process. The other barrier is the lack of traceability in waste flows, which makes it difficult to measure impact.
