Beyond the Inheritance
MARWAR India
|November - December 2025
In a world where privilege often becomes a pedestal, Devyani Jaipuria has chosen to treat hers as a platform. Born into one of India's most distinguished Marwari business families, she could easily have drifted into the comfort of legacy. But Devyani is built differently.
Chairperson of Dharav High School, Pro-Vice Chairperson of DPS International Gurugram and DPS - Sector 45, Founder of Aliya Charitable Trust, Director at Lineage Healthcare, and Executive Director of Devyani Food Industries Ltd., Devyani wears more hats than most wardrobes can hold. Despite the breadth of her roles, what stands out is her calm, measured, razor-sharp presence and the way she carries her responsibilities with a purpose that feels both self-assured and deeply human.
The Quiet Classroom of Childhood
Devyani had a privileged childhood, yes, but never a passive one. Her early years were shaped less by the trappings of inheritance and more by the quiet power of example. Many leaders speak fondly of parental influence, but Devyani's memories have a distinctive stillness. Her parents, Ravi and Dhara Jaipuria, she recalls, have always been persons who were grounded in humility and compassion. “Discipline, simplicity, responsibility were part of the air we breathed,” she recalls. “My parents didn’t believe in delivering carefully packaged sermons on values; instead they lived them.” It was less instruction, more observation; less noise, more nuance.
This quiet modelling became her earliest and most enduring education. Devyani’s formative years were not centred on wealth but on watchfulness. She observed the way her parents moved through the world. Their grounded presence taught her integrity without rigidity, ambition without ego, and vision without vanity. She remembers not grand speeches on success, but them being firm in principle, generous in spirit, and unwavering in their belief that one's influence is measured not by power but by impact. That silent example, she says, shaped her far more than any formal instruction ever could.
