JNPA cuts stranded containers by 82% amid driver shortage

JNPA is coordinating with customs authorities to allow simultaneous scanning of two containers on a single trailer and facilitated a shift from road to rail transport for quicker container evacuation.

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), India’s largest container port said the number of CFS-bound containers stranded for over 15 days has fallen sharply from around 2,500 to 450 following a series of coordinated measures undertaken to tackle congestion caused by an acute shortage of trailer drivers.
The port authority said the pendency is expected to reduce to a negligible level within the next week as daily cargo evacuation operations gain momentum.
