TRUSTWELL PERFORMS DAYCARE BONE TRANSPLANT

Trustwell Hospital, JC Road, Bengaluru, has performed a daycare autologous bone marrow transplant on a 44-year-old patient with multiple myeloma, allowing discharge on the same day and reducing treatment cost by nearly 40%.

The procedure involved collecting and preserving the patient's own healthy stem cells, followed by high-dose chemotherapy and reinfusion. Traditionally, such transplants require weeks of hospitalisation.

The hospital said the transplant was completed within a cost of about Rs 5 lakh.

Dr Sachin Jadhav, Director Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplant at Trustwell Hospital, led the procedure. He said, “We have reduced hospital stay from weeks to a day and lowered the treatment cost by nearly 40%.”
