Kalpesh Mehta's rise in the Indian real estate sector reflects the journey of a first-generation entrepreneur who has combined global exposure, financial discipline, and a deep belief in design to shape one of the country's most distinctive real estate companies.

EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION

Mehta was born into a family of architects in Mumbai, which gave him early exposure to design and construction. Although his professional path began in finance, this background instilled in him an appreciation for the built environment that would resurface later in his career.

After completing a degree in computer science from the University of Texas at Austin in 2000, he pursued an MBA at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 2006. At Wharton, Mehta studied finance and international markets, equipping himself with both technical expertise and a global network.

CAREER IN FINANCE

Mehta began his career in real estate private equity, first at the Carlyle Group in New York. There, he worked on luxury residential projects in Manhattan worth over $3 billion, including one of the largest development projects on the Upper West Side.

He later joined Lehman Brothers in Mumbai as Vice President in the Real Estate Private Equity Fund. At Lehman, Mehta closed some of the largest real estate transactions in India at the time and managed a portfolio of over $400 million in equity, spread across assets valued at more than $3 billion. This experience gave him firsthand insight into the dynamics of the Indian real estate sector and the potential of an increasingly aspirational consumer base.
