An Unalloyed Ambition To Drive India's Self Reliance in the Defense Space

|November 2025
From his birth in a farming household in Hosakote village in Karnataka, to championing India's quest for technological self-reliance in the defense space, Dr. Raghavendra Rao's transformational journey is an inspiration for many.
It was no easy transition for Rao who changed the course of his small electronics manufacturing company into a defense powerhouse. But what empowered him was his determination and vision to build one of India's most promising aerospace and defense companies. Today, DCX Systems (formerly DCX Cable Assemblies Pvt. Ltd) is positioned to become a cornerstone of the country's military-industrial ambitions.
Founded in 2011 with co-founder Mr. Neal Jeremy Castleman from USA, DCX Systems registered significant growth with revenues surging from $46 million to $165 million between 2019 and 2022. The validation of Rao's switch from traditional electronics manufacturing to high-end defense systems was ably illustrated by DCX' November 2024 IPO, which raised ₹500 crore and was oversubscribed 76 times. It was a considerable financial milestone for the firm as well.
Rao, while sharing his ambitions for the firm, says: “We're not just manufacturing components; we're establishing DCX as a product company through technology transfer, moving India from dependency to self-reliance in critical defense technologies.”
