The Mungalis from Pune are a formidable couple. Retired Colonel Girija Shanker Mungali and his wife, Devyani Mungali, have together set up one of the most renowned groups of schools in the country.

Together, they are taking the Sanskriti Group of Schools to newer heights and transforming the lives of several thousand students each year.

Coming from diverse backgrounds, (Retd) Col Mungali and Mrs Devyani Mungali complement each other well. He spent 24 years in the service of the nation, while she has been a teacher all her life, the fulcrum of her vision for education centres around compassion, empathy, and love. His leadership skills and ability to deal with any adversity with utmost clarity and calm, combined with her love for teaching, have made the Sanskriti Group of Schools, Pune, what it is today.

Born and raised in Uttarakhand, (Retd) Col. Girija Shankar Mungali had a distinguished Army career as a paratrooper, mountaineer, and adventurer. He captained the Indian Army's rafting team and was the first to lead an expedition into the upper reaches of the Brahmaputra along the China border. During this mission, he faced a near-death experience when the raft jackknifed in the treacherous Siang River, and he and his team members were swept into a deadly eddy. Emerging safely from the waters along with his entire team, he felt it was destiny that had spared them for a greater purpose. The expedition went on to complete its mission successfully.
